I have 2 reasons:
- The distributor believe that it will not make money in our market
- The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is coming out next week which appeal to a broader market.
Don't get wrong, X-Files: I Want To Believe will do well with tickets sales on it's first weekend but not next week. Are the reviews will be good? I don't know but I won't see it in French to review it. I prefer to wait to rent it on Blu-Ray(English audio).
I believe it's another Serenity in the making where fans will flock to see it but less the average consumers that has more more choices.
I recently wrote Is Quebec City Predicting Blockbusters and Flops?
Update 2008-07-28: X-Files: I Want To Believe did flop making only $10.2 Millions on it's first weekend. I expected more than that. The Dark Night made better than expected with $75.6 Millions. I guest the word of mouth killed it at the theater and The Dark Night used that to it's advantage. Look for the Blu-Ray version sooner than expected. ;)
